Singer J-Lo who was earlier tapped to perform at the World Cup’s opening ceremony in Brazil has been ruled out.
Jennifer Lopez was due to sing the tournament’s official song, “We are one” alongside fellow artists — Cuban-American rapper, Pitbull and Brazilian singer, Claudia Leitte.
Football’s governing body Fifa made the announcement via a news release, “For production issues, Jennifer Lopez, one of the artists of the official song ‘We Are One,’ will not be able to perform at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony,”
The singer’s representatives also confirmed her absence via e-mail saying “regretfully Jennifer Lopez will not be attending this year’s World Cup opening ceremonies”.
The song, “We Are One,” which was recorded by Jennifer Lopez, rapper Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte — who sang only a few seconds at the end of the song in her native Portuguese–disappointed a lot of Brazilians who complain that it sounds too generic for the nation’s Bossa Nova-crazed audiences and that it features foreign musicians singing mostly in English and Spanish.
According to Fifa, Pitbull and Claudia Leitte will sing the official tune We Are One before Brazil take on Croatia at Thursday’s opening game in Sao Paulo.
